Iris Custom 3D Printed Case & Switch Plate Set - Assembly Advice

Hey there!

You probably purchased the case and switch plate set for the Iris split keyboard from my website or Etsy store, I want to leave a few tips here to make your life potentially easier when assembling your Iris!

When Assembling:

  1. Optional: If you have any stabilisers please install them before inserting the PCB into the case!
  2. Lay the case on the desk, slide the PCB half into the case at a slight angle (USB-C connectors head first), in particular check the alignment of the USB-C ports and the corresponding cutouts. You might need to gently press the PCB close to the lower USB-C port down to slot it in completely. Once the PCB sits snugly in the case secure it with the provided screws. Make sure to not overtighten the screws, the PCB is held in place by the screws and the USB-C cutouts.
  3. Now take your switch plate and insert a few (or all) switches into it (corners/outer edges and thumb keys are the most important ones). Also be mindful about the switch orientation! The switches are supposed to go upside down into the PCB!
  4. Align the switch plate and switches with the PCB and press them gently into the PCB. There should not be a big resistance when doing so. Check if some switches don't align or are the "wrong" side around in the switch plate.

For (easiest) Disassembly:

  1. Remove your keycaps, switches and the switch plate, so you can completely access the PCB and unscrew it.
  2. Now pry the PCB gently out of the case, you need to lift the lower half first and away from the USB-C cutouts. Be mindful about not bending the USB-C. There is no big force needed to extract the PCB, just a little bit of wiggling around and patience. (Inserting the tip of a pen into one of the switch holes makes it easier to get started and move the PCB initally.)
  3. Done! :)

I hope you will enjoy your new Case & Switch Plate Set for your Iris ❤️
